In view of Corona’s growing case, the Indian Wrestling Federation has now postponed the national championship to be held next month till January 2021. The association’s assistant secretary Vinod Tomar said that this decision had to be taken in view of the current situation. He said, “The situation is still not right.” In such a situation, it will not be possible to hold a national championship. We will try to organize it in late January next year. ‘
The postponement of the national tournament means that there will be two national championships next year. Tomar said, “We have done this before when we had to take such a decision due to the circumstances.”
This year the championship was to be held in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh from December 18 to 20. Tomar said that if any other state is willing to host it, then the location can also be changed. He also said that he is ready to send the Indian team for the individual World Cup to be held in Belgrade, Serbia from 12 to 18 December.
He said, “We have decided not to conduct the trial and it will be the wrestlers who will participate in the Asian Championships to be held in Delhi in February. Bajrang Poonia (65 kg), Vinesh Phogat (53 kg), Jitender Kumar (74 kg) and Sombir Rathi (92 kg) had sought permission to stay outside which has been granted. ‘
Tomar said, “No one will participate in Bajrang, Vinesh and Sombir’s class. Narasimha Yadav will represent India in 74 kg. Apart from these, Anshu Malik will compete in 57 kg and Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik in 65 kg category.
