Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar formed a vital partnership of 123 runs after six wickets fell for 186 runs. The Australian team, captained by Tim Paine, was in the midst of taking India out for more than 100 runs on the first innings, between 200 and 250 runs, but Sundar-Thakur did not let that happen. India fell behind by 33 runs.
