The Queen’s Gambit Season 2: Release Date, Cast And Plot

It is no surprise that Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit Limited Series had won several awards since its release last year. Anya Taylor-Joy recently added a Critics Choice Award to her Golden Globe award for best actress.

As a bonus for fans, Taylor-Joy hinted that despite looking all but ruled out, there might still be a second season at some point.

In addition to chessboard sales seeing huge increases worldwide when the series debuted last year, Netflix subscribers have been desperate to know if there will be more episodes despite the drama being billed as a Limited Series and based on a book that there is no sequel to.

You can find everything you need to know about a possible second season of The Queen’s Gambit below.

The Queen’s Gambit Season 2 Release Date

It seems unlikely that there will be a second season at this point, especially after comments made by executive producer William Horberg following the Golden Globe nominations.

Deadline quoted him as saying: “It’s wonderful knowing people are going to be interested in these characters when they want to spend more time with them; I never imagined that would happen.”

He and the creator appeared to have disagreed about how the series ended, thus excluding the possibility of a second installment.

Rather than fill in what happens next for Beth Harmon, we decided to leave it up to the audience,” he said.

No changes have been made, even though my Twitter feed has been flooded with requests. It gives Scott and me great pleasure to complete Beth’s story.”

There were some stars of the show who suggested there was a slight chance of a next season. Town & Country Magazine reported in October 2020 that Anya Taylor-Joy, who’s worked in this industry since 2010, learns that you can never say never.

Although she admitted that the series ends on a “nice note,” she added: “I love the character and I’d certainly return if asked.”

The Queen’s Gambit Season 2 Cast

A second season would indeed feature Anya-Taylor Joy, as we couldn’t imagine this series without her.

Similarly, we would like to see some supporting players, such as Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Harry Melling, and Moses Ingram. Still, Bill Camp and Marielle Heller are unlikely to appear because both of their characters die during the Limited Series.

A new series has not been announced, so at this point, we are speculating. However, we will let you know if anything changes on that front.

The Queen’s Gambit Season 2 Plot

The Walter Tevis source novel does not have a sequel, and all future seasons must be original stories.

How will it turn out? Though Beth had defeated the greatest chess player in the world at the end of the first series, that meant she would not be able to stay at the top for long. In the limited series, she has a very close match against a young player, which could mean her demons are returning to haunt her – and this is hinted at when she has a very close game against him.

Additionally, we may be able to learn more about Beth’s troubled childhood, or we may be able to learn more about one of the many unforgettable supporting characters.

I should also emphasize that a sequel is likely not against Tevis’ spirit – he had mentioned writing a sequel to his novel about Beth Harmon. Still, he passed away before he had the chance, whereby a continuation is certainly an option.
