The fifth season of ‘The Expanse’ premieres this Wednesday, December 16, on Amazon Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.
The Hugo Award-winning series ‘The Expanse’, now in its fifth season, is based on the popular science fiction novels by James SA Corey. The first three episodes (out of ten total) premiere on Amazon Prime Video this Wednesday, December 16, with new episodes available every Wednesday, culminating in an epic season finale on February 3, 2021.
The series stars three-time Golden Globe nominee Thomas Jane (Alert In The Deep), Oscar® nominee Shohreh Asgdashloo (Star Trek: Beyond), Steve Strait (The Evil Alliance), Dominique Tipper (Animals Fantastic and Where to Find Them), Wes Chatham (The Hunger Games), Cas Anvar (The Punisher: War Zone), Frankie Adams (Mortal Machines), Shawn Doyle (Frequency), Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead), Florence Faivre (The Sia Renaissance) and Cara Gee (Empire of Dirt).
Developed and written by Academy Award-nominated writer duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. The executive producers are Naren Shankar, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Sharon Hall, Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Daniel Abraham, Ty Franck, and Dan Nowak. Shankar serves as showrunner for all seasons. The Expanse is produced by Alcon Television Group.
Set in a colonized solar system, ‘The Expanse’ begins when the governments of Earth, Mars, and the Asteroid Belt find themselves in the middle of a prolonged conflict. The crew of the Rocinante, an illegally rescued warship, stumbles upon a vast conspiracy and mysterious alien technology that threatens to upset the balance of power and the destiny of humanity.

The fifth season of the series begins as multitudes of humans leave the solar system in search of new homes and vast fortunes on Earth-like planets beyond the alien Ring.
The exploitation of the Belt for centuries is finally taking a heavy toll as a reckoning is coming. For the Rocinante crew and the leaders of the Inner Planets and the Belt, past and present converge, bringing with them personal challenges that have far-reaching repercussions throughout the Solar System.
Amos ( Wes Chatham ) returns to Earth to confront his past and the legacy of life he has tried to leave behind. Naomi ( Dominique Tipper ) approaches the son from whom she had separated in a desperate attempt to save him from his father’s toxic influence. Bobbie ( Frankie Adams ) and Alex ( Cas Anvar) face the collapse of Mars while pursuing a dark cabal linked to terrorism and crime. Holden ( Steven Strait ) deals with the consequences of his own past with the Protomolecule, the aliens that built it, and the mystery of what killed them. Drummer ( Cara Gee ), with a new crew, struggles to escape from what used to be. And Avasarala ( Shohreh Aghdashloo ), refusing to be relegated to the background, fights to prevent a terrorist attack unprecedented in history.
