Netflix Spain released a trailer for its highly anticipated second season, “SKY Rojo,” a Spanish thriller series that will premiere worldwide on July 23.
Moving away from the Spanish noir aesthetics in “Money Heist,” Sky Rojo uses a brightly-colored, neon palette to blend several genres into what its creators Alex Pina & Esther Martinez call “Latin Pulp.” The duo also reduced each episode to a short 25-minute duration.
Three exotic dancers become victims of human trafficking and are forced into prostitution in “Sky Rojo,” season 1. The three escapees fled Tenerife, Spain after a violent confrontation with Romeo, a club owner turned pimp, Romeo. The series’ three main roles are played by Veronica Sanchez, a Spanish actor (“Gordos”) and Lali Esposito (Argentine singer-actor (“That’s Not Cheating”) respectively.
Asier Etxeandia, Spanish Academy Goya Award nominee (“Pain and Glory”), plays Romeo. He is joined by Miguel Angel Silvestre (“30 Coins”) and Enric Aquer (“Eye for an Eye”), who are his goons, Moises and Christian.
After suffering a series of traumas and near-death encounters in season 1, Coral, Wendy, and Gina have a plan, an arsenal, and a grudge to settle. The trailer shows the trio recommitting to their Musketeer-like bond before they arm up and hunt down their former oppressors. As Romeo and his crew begin to fall apart, the once close-knit family is unable to keep its threads together.
Pina’s Madrid-based Vancouver Media produces “Sky Rojo”, with Martinez and Pina joining Jesus Colmenar as executive producer. Colmenar is part of the series’ co-directing team that also includes Javier Quintas, Albert Pinto, and David Victori.
