Moderna is now considering following in Pfizer’s footsteps and filling its Covid-19 vaccine vials with additional doses to alleviate supply shortages and increase the number of drugs sold to countries. The company manufactures about a million doses daily. The company proposes to fill the vials with additional doses of the vaccine, up to 15 doses compared to the current 10, Moderna says in a statement.
But to do so, the company says, it needs to have more discussions with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) “to make sure they agree before implementing it. Moderna president Stephen Hoge said in the statement that the additional doses would help address current capacity constraints. According to CNBC, Moderna has already asked the FDA for permission to add up to five additional doses to the vaccine vials.
