Are you a fan of Lucifer? The dream show, that follows Lucifer AKA the devil who abandons Hell for a career fighting crime in Los Angeles, has been a hit with audiences since it debuted in 2016 but will probably soon come to a close with its sixth and final season.

Release Date

Lucifer bosses confirmed that the series will soon be coming back for one additional – and final – season with a tweet that read: “The devil made us do it. #Lucifer will go back for a sixth and final season. Like, FINAL final.” Later in the year, the series’ showrunner Joe Henderson confirmed that manufacturing had begun off the back of ending up filming the ending of season 5.

Back in January 2021, Tom Ellis teased fans with a behind-the-scenes snap of him working out with his coach along with a smiling devil emoji, causing many to believe that the actor was getting into devilishly good shape because of his position as Lucifer Morningstar after a break for the holidays.

Fans’ feelings were confirmed in February when an actress in Lesley Ann Brandt, who performs Lucifer’s loyal cop Maze on the show, snapped a behind-the-scenes picture from her trailer. She captioned the photo: “Good to be back….safely @LuciferNetflix”.

As for when we can expect the sixth season to land on Netflix? Well, given that season 5-part 2, which ended filming last year is still to broadcast, we think the oldest could be overdue 2021.

Plot

The plot of season six remains firmly under wraps for now, however showrunners Joe Henderson and Idly Modrovich have shown that using the additional episodes has allowed them to”really explore how our personalities wind up where they ended up”.

“It is the story we were constantly likely to tell, but just written considerably bigger and also to be a lot more interestingly. It breaks my heart to think we weren’t going to do it this way”

The writing team behind the series also has been keeping’Lucifans’ entertained during the midseason hiatus by teasing forthcoming episode titles on the official Lucifer Writer’s Room Twitter account.

Their most recent clue revealed the penultimate episode will be title goodbye, Lucifer’, that has – very understandably – sent audiences into a spin. “I’m not prepared!!” One fan tweeted in response.

Cast

Without understanding how season five endings, it’s tricky to know which cast members will reprise their roles for Lucifer season six as anything could happen following that dramatic midseason cliffhanger!

However, it appear likely that fans can expect most of the present cast members to reunite including, of course, Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as his cherished Detective Chloe Decker and D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel.

New cast members also have been verified including Friday Night Lights actor Scott Porter, Chris Coy and Rob Zabrecky although specifics of who they will play the series have yet to be released.
