Kim Kardashian West has formally filed for divorce from rapper Kanye West after more than six years of marriage in which they became one of the most mediatic couples. The tabloid TMZ was the first to this Friday, later confirmed by other media such as the Los Angeles Times, which indicates that the star has also asked for joint custody of their four children together.

That petition, registered in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, confirms rumors that for months had indicated that the couple was studying a formal separation after numerous disagreements.

According to sources close to the family, the divorce will be peaceful, since there is already a prenuptial agreement and there are advanced conversations about a subsequent separation of assets that have the approval of both. In fact, West has lived in a house in the state of Wyoming since last year and Kardashian resides in the Los Angeles area with her children.

American tabloids such as People, Page Six, and Entertainment Tonight have been reporting on the marriage crisis for months, which was exacerbated this summer when the rapper ran a controversial and surreal presidential campaign for the last November election.

After that announcement, which materialized in a series of local and state nominations without any possibility, the rapper starred in a series of erratic and unpredictable behaviors that undermined Kim Kardashian’s confidence in the future of the relationship. The star first spoke about these issues in a televised interview in which she asked West, who suffers from bipolar disorder, for understanding. Apparently, the couple has attended several therapy sessions before starting the divorce proceedings.

She has had enough and has told him that she wants some space to work out her future,” an unidentified source told People magazine. Kardashian married West in 2014, has made it big on television with “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” and is one of the most popular celebrities on social media (she has over 200 million followers on Instagram). For his part, West has been considered one of the most important rappers in history thanks to albums like “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” (2010) or “Yeezus” (2013).
