Seen: a group of young people ready to take over from Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf. After HBO Max released the first look a few weeks ago, we can now see the first moving images of the Gossip Girl ‘reboot’. This advance – if it can be called that – comes in the preview of all the series that HBO Max prepares for the 2021-2022 season. It’s just a few seconds of video, but at least we can see the new students on the streets of New York. Of course, more stylish than any teenager her age.

The new fiction is going to be set eight years after the original series ended. This takes the story directly to 2020, the time of the ‘challenges’ of TikTok, and the Instagram posture that surely gives a lot of play. The effects of the Gossip Queen can now be much greater, as any content you post on social media can go viral. It’s no longer just Dan Humphrey’s ( Penn Badgley ) eyes watching what others are up to, now everyone can feed the gossip with their mobile phones.

At the moment, all confirmed actors are new. The cast consists of Emily Alyn Lind ( The Babysitter ), Whitney Peak ( Chilling Adventures of Sabrina ), Eli Brown ( Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists ), Jonathan Fernandez ( Lethal Weapon ), Jason Gotay ( Love Life ), Tavi Gevinson ( Scream Queens ), Thomas Doherty (High Fidelity ) or Adam Chanler-Berat ( The Good Wife ), among many others. It is a cast made up of actors almost unknown until now. Of course, Kristen Bell will continue to voice the Gossip Queen.

Years after we fired the characters of Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, HBO Max announced that it was bringing back the universe of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, creators and executive producers, and was developing a season with 10 episodes. According to Joshua Safran, screenwriter, and producer, it is not a ‘remake’ but a “continuation of that world”.

We can discover what they have prepared with this new production in the first months of 2021 when it will arrive on HBO Max.
