Fantastic Beasts 3, the third installment in the Harry Potter prequel saga, continues filming after the departure of Johnny Depp, the actor who originally played Gellert Grindelwald in the franchise. After losing his lawsuit against the tabloid The Sun for defamation, Warner Bros. asked the interpreter to abandon his role in future installments of the saga about the magizoologist Newt Scamander ( Eddie Redmayne ) and he accepted. The study did not take long to find a replacement and, from now on, it will be Mads Mikkelsen who gets into the skin of the dark wizard.

The actor has already started working on the filming of Fantastic Animals 3, as he has told in an interview with AP. Mikkelsen has stated that he has been on set for a week now and is enjoying the experience. He has described director David Yates as “fantastic” and “very kind” and added that, to date, everything is going “great”.

On the other hand, the aforementioned medium has also asked the actor if he has spoken with Depp to carry out the transition of the character. Mikkelsen has replied that this is not the case, but that he hopes to connect the two versions of Grindelwald and do the character justice.

Gellert Grindelwald is key in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. He is the main villain of the saga and who will face a young Albus Dumbledore ( Jude Law ) in one of the most legendary duels that are remembered among the magical community.

Fantastic Beasts 3 has Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, and Ezra Miller in its cast. They will all return, respectively, as Tina, Queenie, Jacob, and Credence. The third installment of the saga has a script by JK Rowling and Steve Kloves. The latter was responsible for the film adaptation of all Harry Potter installments except for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
