i was not able to run j2ee server it gives error J2EE_HOME not set ..how to set J2EE_HOME and JAVA_HOME in win98

You will set those paths in autoexec.bat, which is commonly located in the boot disc root directory (typically c:/autoexec.bat). The commands will be similar to:

SET JAVA_HOME=c:JDK
SET J2EE_HOME=c:J2EE


HOWEVER, there are definitely some issues running J2EE on Windows 98. See this link for a workaround.
