The crude reason for cancellation is the bargain between CBC and Netflix dropped through and their partnership dissolved.

Following the cancellation, the hurt fans began offline and online campaigns to save the series. A Twitter campaign with the hashtag #renewannewithane was launched. Aside from the Twitter effort, fans raised voices through a petition on to reverse the decision of cancellation or the series to be chosen by another streamer.
