Derry Girls will return for a third season, but prepare for a long wait as COVID-19 has delayed filming for the show much later than originally planned. Here’s what to expect from Derry Girls season 3 and a warning that it might not be until 2022 when we see it on Netflix.

In case you missed it, Derry Girls is a comedy series based on Northern Ireland and follows four teenage girls in high school who are up to all kinds of shenanigans.

It is rated Netflix Original but is in fact produced by Channel 4 in the UK and distributed internationally by Netflix. There have been several Channel 4 shows that have hit Netflix exclusively in recent years in similar fashion.

Season 2 is now on Netflix worldwide as of August 2, 2019. That being said, those in the UK will likely still have to wait about a year before streaming it there.

Has Derry Girls Been Renewed For Season 3?

Yes, you read correctly that you will not have to wait at all when it comes to knowing the fate of season 3 as has already been confirmed.

Thanks to the show’s success on Channel 4 and its international performance through Netflix, it was given an instant renewal when season 2 concluded in April 2019.

On the renewal , Lisa McGee, who serves as showrunner and creator, said the following: “I love writing this show and I am so excited to be able to continue the story of Derry Girls, thank you Channel 4, Erin and the live eejits to fight. another day ! “

When Will Season 3 Of Derry Girls Be On Netflix Us?

As you may know with British shows, they often don’t stick to a consistent release schedule.

Derry Girls had stuck to a yearly program though (a few months or so) and we originally hoped it would come in late 2020 or 2021. Now it looks like it’s not going to happen thanks to the C word everyone with We will live through 2020. According to production was originally set to begin in June 2020.

That leaves us to believe that the series won’t now hit Netflix until at least 2022 internationally and even longer for those in the UK.
