Netflix has revealed Atypical season 4’s release date and first-look pictures for the show’s final season. Atypical is a Netflix dramedy that follows Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist), a teenager on the autism spectrum, as he searches for liberty and love amidst the complex lives of his family and friends that are also searching for their particular identities. Atypical season 3 performed particularly well with its raw portrayal of a family broken by infidelity and its exploration of the struggles that individuals on the spectrum face in college, but it did leave viewers with a lot of questions regarding what’s next for Sam and how the family will continue to cure.
Netflix has declared that Atypical season 4 will premier on July 9, also followed the statement with a ton of first-look images for the season. The photographs show the return of many recurring characters – Sam’s buddy Zahid (Nik Dodani), Casey’s girlfriend Izzie (Fivel Stewart), and Sam’s new buddy Sid (Tal Anderson). Interestingly, two of the images also show what seem to be moving boxes at the Gardner house, suggesting that the family may be moving in season 4.
Season 4 seems to be ongoing on steadily from season 3. We watch Casey (Brigette Lundy-Paine) and Izzie together, Sam and Zahid rekindling their friendship, and Sam drawing, working at Techtropolis, and hanging with his college friends. The existence of these moving boxes is not too surprising, since the household is in need of a new beginning. However, if the boxes represent either Sam or Casey moving out, that would be somewhat more interesting and could be consistent with Sam’s progressing college career and Casey’s hopes to attend UCLA. What we do know for sure is that each one of the series’ favorites will be returning to get the 4th and final season of Atypical, that promises to be heartfelt and full of surprises.
