The dream horror series that is based on the comic series from Joe Hill sees three siblings go to a home with plenty of magic and secrets concealed inside. Season 1 consisted of 10 episodes, which all dropped on Netflix globally on February 7th, 2020.
It has been a long road to have a TV series for Locke & Key in line with the showrunners who commented on the fact the series was initially intended for Fox and Hulu that they shot pilots for.
Reviews to the new Netflix series were generally positive with most complaints saying it feels too familiar but was simultaneously praised by additional outlets with some saying it’s got the potential to function as the next Goosebumps.

According to our resources that offer production programs, the show was in active development for a second year shortly after the first season was released. Yet again, filming will take place in Toronto, Canada. More on production schedules in just a second.
The two showrunners, Meredith Averill and Carlton Cuse spoke about plans for a second season in interviews during the press tour for Locke & Key. That comes with an interview with Gamespot in which the founders said: “We’re writing Season 2, although it has not been greenlit. We’re working in a room,”
Connor Jessup who plays with Tyler Locke also expressed that there’s definitely room for another season in an interview stating: “The authors have been working on seasons 2 so if it does get picked up, we are ready.” Adding the conclusion of season 1 definitely sets up another season.
What Is The Production Status Of Locke & Key Season 2 And When Will Season 2 Be On Netflix?
The next season was originally anticipated to begin filming on August 17th, 2020, and finish on February 5th, 2021. Obviously, COVID continues to disrupt filming schedules as was the case with Locke & Key.
We now have an additional update in September 2020 that the series was postponed by a month and is currently due to begin production on September 21st, 2020, and run through March 5th, 2021. That eventually was confirmed to be happening slightly earlier on September 19th.
We also got a number of the first pictures in the collection with COVID-19 secure steps.
Filming has since wrapped (expected to have finished filming in December 2021) but according to a production record from Canadian Directors Guild (not formally connected to Netflix and slightly wrong when it comes to some production dates), the series will be undergoing postsecondary for much of the rest of 2021 with September 3rd recorded as the end date for”soundpost”.
While a 2021 release date for Locke & Key seasons 2 is absolutely confirmed, how late to the seasons is yet to be seen.
What To Expect From Season 2 Of Locke & Key
For those who have completed the first season, you’ll absolutely know that it directly sets a new season. The concluding pan of this series is zooming out to the beachfront city with dark skies and lightning off in the space.
The series concludes with the siblings entering the most dangerous door yet and ends together with the priest being the keeper of all the keys. However, evil is still lurking and Dodge seemingly getting away with giving the look that she died (or was knocked out cold) at the final climactic battle. The omega key is safe but the crown is still missing.
We are anticipating the show to keep on sticking with all the comics because of its primary story arc but it’s been mentioned that it might diverge with the founders saying: “We all wish to make sure the finish works for the TV series and we’re not only forcing ourselves into a finish for endings’ sake.”
When asked about changes in the Netflix show, Joe Hill said:” It’s to function as a TV show. It must succeed in the possibilities and limitations of its particular kind.”.

Locke And Key Season 3?
Yep. The near future of Locke & Key is protected with a third season already arranged and producing underway as of May 2021. We have heard rumors of a fourth season but it’s possibly just a little too early because of that. We’re also thrilled the Sandman is coming to Netflix which will leave the door wide open to a distinctive one-off series/movie dependent on the comic book crossover.
Besides some third year, the co-showrunner for Locke & Key, Meredith Averill, additionally signed an overall deal with Netflix.
Additionally, in the event that you love the IDW comics, Netflix is going to be your streaming home for many years to come given Netflix has an output deal with the comic manufacturer. They have already created V Wars and October Faction (both of which are sadly canceled, however). You can also now catch their other series Wynonna Earp and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency on Netflix too.
