Askeladd seizes the King just before the end of season 1 after being asked to choose between Canute or his homeland. Canute makes use of his weakness to kill Askeladdso to claim that the King will be next to him. Thorfinn who has always sought revenge, then breaks down, attacking Canute. Canute was immediately taken into custody and may be held in prison or worse.
