Vienna Blood Season 2

Set in Vienna, Austria in the 1900s, Vienna Blood is a British-Austrian psychological thriller television series. It is based on The Liebermann Novels by Frank Tallis. The first season made its debut on 18th November, 2019.

The show has been written by the writer of ‘Sherlock’, Steve Thompson and has been directed by Robert Dornhelm. He also directed ‘Anne Frank: The Whole Story’. The series was produced by Austria’s MR Film and Red Arrow Studio’s Endor Productions. The producers for MR Film are Oliver Auspitz and Andreas Kamm. For Endor, the producers are Hilary Bevan Jones and Jez Swimer. The executive producers are Thompson Carlo Dusi and Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia.

The series starred Matthew Beard as the protagonist Max Liebermann. Max is a Victorian-era English junior doctor and protégé of Sigmund Freud. He comes in contact with Police Detective Oskar Rheinhardt played by Jurgen Maurer. The former helps the latter, who was struggling to solve a murder case, to solve the investigation.

Growing Anti-Semitism against the Liebermann family is another sub-theme of the series.

Release Date

On 6th July, 2020 it was announced by the production houses that the show has been renewed for another season. It has been jointly recommissioned by Germany’s ZDF, Austria’s ORF, BBC Two and PBS. The period crime drama is all set to have another three episodes.

In August 2020, the show went into production and will most probably air in the next year. No official announcement has been made regarding the release date.

No trailer regarding the second season has yet been released.

The first season was similar in a certain aspect to both Sherlock and Netflix’s psychological thriller Mindhunter. The central character Max is obsessed with the psychology of murders and psychopaths. By providing psychological insights into the subject motives, the doctor along with the detective investigate disturbing murders with success.

The series is based on Liebermann’s paper books which means that there are plenty of source materials from which the series can be adapted. So, we are looking forward to see how the duo solves more cases. The fans eagerly hope that the second season will be equally intriguing like the first season.
