The methane gas leak and subsequent fire that occurred on Saturday, January 23, in a section of the 26-inch gas pipeline, which runs from Anaco to the Jose Industrial Complex in Anzoategui, was controlled by PDVSA Gas workers who are currently taking actions to replace the section of pipeline affected and keep fuel distribution in operation in the east and center of the country.

According to a company report, workers from the PDVSA subsidiary came to the scene to cordon off the area, shut off the gas through the pipeline and extinguish the flames, which this Sunday 24 remained with less intensity.

The event took place less than a kilometer from the Barbacoa I transmission substation, an important electrical installation of Corpoelec, which supplies power to the entire northern part of the state. As a preventive measure families living in adjacent homes were evacuated by firefighters to a safe area who was able to return to their homes after controlling the situation with the closing of the valves.

Similarly, it was reported that two people were burned, without providing their identities. It was learned that a peasant from the Mi Granjita farm, located in the Valles de Marcelo de Barbacoas sector, Simon Bolivar municipality suffered first-degree burns from the explosion. Both injured were treated at the Industrial Clinic of the Jose Complex.

To carry out the recovery efforts for the section, heavy machinery and crews of oil workers were transferred to the scene.

Officials from the Fire Department, Polianzoategui, GNB, Sebin, and the commander of the Zodi-51 Anzoategui, G / D Marco Tulio Alvarez, also participated in the control and mitigation tasks. Access to the incident area remains restricted.
