Both The Vampire Diaries and Twilight had different versions of the blood-sucking supernatural creature. Fans fell in love with the bright and handsome Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but then came the handsome and moral Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), who performed better this way:

Let Elena go so she can be happy

Stefan from The Vampire Diaries let Elena decide who she wanted to be with. This takes a lot of courage when it comes to a woman who looks like your ex and ends up falling in love with your brother. Stefan let her go so she can be happy.

More incognito

It is easier for Stefan from The Vampire Diaries to get into high school but for Edward and his family in Twilight, it is more difficult due to continually having to move.

The change in humanity

The change in humanity used in The Vampire Diaries show can be seen as either an asset or a bad tool. The vampires on the show can turn off their humanity and no longer feel sympathy, regret, or pain.

Stefan once turned his off and became a ruthless killer. His past also made him more compassionate and aware of the seriousness of bad decisions in The Vampire Diaries.

Edward doesn’t have this safety switch. He is forced to live with all his regret and pain for the rest of his immortal life in Twilight, giving Stefan from The Vampire Diaries a certain edge.
