An American Science fiction comedy-drama, The Orville is a television series created by Seth Macfarlane who also plays the protagonist Ed Mercer, an officer in the Planetary Union’s line of exploratory space vessels in the 25th century.

Where can the audience watch it?

The third season of The Orville has been given a thumbs up but it will no longer air on Fox and would move to Hulu as announced in July of the last year. Both Fox and Hulu are owned by Disney, the only difference being the subscription fee at Hulu which would be $5.99 a month after the end of 7-day free trial.

MacFarlane is supportive of this change as he suggests it would allow them to not to worry regarding the length of the show and not to edit out important scenes.

Earlier, the UK audience could catch up with the episodes on FOX UK or NOW TV, but with the shift things will get complicated as Hulu is not available in the UK at the moment and is only accessible within the US.

When will the Season 3 premiere?

The viewers were promised that the third season would hit the screens in the latter half of 2020, but due to the global pandemic situation, the production has been halted. We are now seeing a strong probability of the pending season to premiere in 2021.

According to what MacFarlane said, half of the season has already been shot and their team has been setting up crazy systems which has made the editing of the work possible from home.

Who are being casted?

MacFarlane being the brains behind the show will be returning as Captain Ed Mercer.

In Season 2, the character of Halston Sage as Lieutenant Alara Kitan bid goodbye but in an interview David Goodman, the executive producer said that they are trying to figure out how to bring Alara back in the storyline.

The others expected to be cast are as follows:

  • Adrianna Palicki as Commander Kelly Grayson
  • Penny Johnson Jerald as Doctor Claire Finn
  • Scott Grimes as Lieutenant Gordon Malloy
  • Peter Macon as Lieutenant Commander Bortus
  • J Lee as Lieutenant Commander John LaMarr
  • Mark Jackson as Isaac
  • Jessica Szohr as Lieutenant Talia Keyali
  • Chad L. Coleman as Klyden

An additional character called Charly Burke played by Anne Winters is expected to appear in this season.

With the audience waiting eagerly for the new season to premiere, we can only hope it will meet the expectations of it’s fanbase.
