The medical drama starring Freddie Highmore has been renewed for a fifth season by ABC, marking the system’s first scripted renewal of the broadcast season. On May 3, 2021, ABC revived The Good Doctor to the fifth season. It was good news for the fans of this series, though it was not entirely unexpected.
The show follows Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young physician with autism and savant syndrome who continues to employ his odd medical skills at St. Bonaventure Hospital’s surgical department, as played by Highmore.
Despite the pandemic, ABC was one among the networks that tried to maintain the fall as normal as possible during the 2020-2021 TV season. As a result, the show’s schedule was interrupted, resulting in a drop in audiences.
The executive producer and showrunner have been David Shore. Executive producers include Daniel Dae Kim, Erin Gunn, David Kim, and Sebastian Lee.
Expected Release Date
The Good Doctor Season 5 has been approved on May 3, 2021, much to the pleasure of fans. The Good Doctor is expected to premiere in the autumn of 2021, probably in September of that year. ABC has not announced its fall schedule for 2021 however, but it appears that the objective is to get a season that’s as typical as possible in 2021-2022.
The first 3 seasons of this show were broadcasted in September, however, season four was postponed until November 2020. Fans can look forward to a September 2021 release date, even though the coronavirus pandemic may cause further delays.

Since the renewal of Season 5 has been just recently declared, there is no trailer for the approaching season yet. A trailer should be released a couple of weeks before the premiere of this season, so fans should expect to see one around the end of 2021.
