The Boondocks is coming back after a massive break for its Season 5. The first four seasons aired between 2005 and 2014. It is an adult comic series that airs on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim program. The series derives inspiration from Aaron McGruder’s comic strip ‘The Boondocks’. He initialized this project on Hitlist.com. Then the comic strip went on to het published by The Source and then The Universal Press Syndicate. Adult Swim adopted it into an adult series.
Why Was The Boondocks Cancelled?
The series stopped after the fourth season in 2014. After the absence of McGruder’s character, viewership dropped and resulted in the cancellation. However in 2019, Sony Pictures Animation announced its revival for two more seasons. They have also promised the return of McGruder’s character.
The series commands on the political situation and cultural diversity in today’s politics. The Boondocks has managed to bring huge names to highlight such as R. Kelly, Tyler Perry and as far as the Obama presidential rule. With the current situation, the series needs to make a comeback and give its perspective.
When the show ended, fans couldn’t figure out the reason as it was the best show in its genre. There was talk about its renewal going the rounds. Finally, John Witherspoon announced its comeback on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

The series was booked for a February release in 2020. But as the pandemic obstructed productions, the premiere got delayed. The Boondocks renewed for 2 seasons, 24 episodes in total and a 55 min special to this time.
Cast Of The Boondocks Season 5
The show’s main characters are the Freeman brothers and their grandfather Robert. The Freeman brothers are Huey and Riley, the former is the smart and takes interest in politics whereas the latter is the mischievous one. The voice-over artist for both the characters is Academy Award-winning, Regina King. Their grandfather, Robert Freeman, a civil rights activist and was voiced by John Witherspoon. Sadly the untimely demise of John Witherspoon has fans left fans wondering. We still don’t know who will be voicing Robert yet. The other voice-over artists are:
