Godzilla Singular Point

Godzilla Singular Point, a new animated series from director Atsushi Takahashi (Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi) and animation studios Bones (My Hero Academia) and Orange (Beastars), marks a significant change from recent Godzilla stories.

Our rave review of the series calls her a possible “rightful heir to Shin Godzilla” and claims that she “offers a much more cerebral take on King of the Monsters than the recent Hollywood movie Godzilla vs Kong.”

And now Godzilla fans are going to be able to draw their conclusions sooner than expected: Netflix has announced that the series’ global release date is set for this week.

Godzilla Singular Point release date

Netflix today announced that the release date for Godzilla Singular Point is June 24, 2021. That’s right – this Thursday. The series has already aired in Japan and Mexico, but it will arrive on the streaming service in the rest of the world on Thursday. Feel free to do your best imitation of Godzilla’s roar to mark the occasion.

Singular Point is backed by top talent, including science-fiction writer Toh Enjoe, who first worked on television as an editor and writer; Kazue Kato (Blue Exorcist), who designs the human characters; legendary animator Eiji Yamamori, who has been the main animator in all of Hayao Miyazaki’s films since Princess Mononoke, who creates the Kaiju cartoons; and composer Ken Sawada (Yowamushi Pedal), who takes care of the music.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Reunited by a mysterious song, a student and an engineer lead the fight against an unimaginable force that can spell the end of the world … Godzilla Singular Point is an original animated series whose characters are drawn by Kazue Kato of Blue Exorcist and a new drawing by Godzilla by legendary Ghibli host Eiji Yamamori.
