Hit BBC One TV show Taboo is returning for a season 2 this time. Steven Knight, the creator, had informed fans way back in 2017 that the show will return for a new season. He quoted “I’m trying to write it as quickly as I can, I would say we would hope to be shooting it… early next year.[2018]” However, the show got delayed due to Tom Hardy’s busy schedule. Also, Steven Knight is the writer for the hit show Peaky Blinders as well. Therefore, the BBC pushed the show furthermore.

Taboo being a British period drama has received lots of attention from the audiences as well as the critics. The show has an impressive IMDB rating of 8.4/10.


The makers have not revealed any new cast members for season 2 yet. All that we know is that Tom Hardy is set to resume his role as the protagonist James Keziah Delaney.

The plot of the show is set in 1814 and revolves around James Keziah Delaney. He returns to England after many years in Africa to attend his father’s funeral. James’ father leaves nothing of value for him except land which is in dispute between the U.S and the U.K during the war. However, James works hard to reinstate his inheritance and locks horns with the East India Company to do so. James realizes that arsenic poisoning killed his father.

Finally, he escapes to the United States via a ship to save himself from the Company. This ending promises a very happening season 2 which will be set in the American backdrop. Also, the writer Steven Knight has stated that season 2 will be “explosive”.

Release Date

The makers of the show had mentioned that the filming for season 2 will begin in early 2020. However, they halted this series due to the global pandemic. As of now, there is no release date for the show nevertheless, stay tuned for more updates on season 2 of Taboo.
