The ninth movie in the horror franchise of Saw movies, Spiral has been unfortunately postponed for a year because of the pandemic situation around the world. This is surely a heart-breaking news for the hardcore fans of the franchise.
It is also known as Spiral: From the Book of Saw. This upcoming spooky-horror American movie has been written by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. The movie has been directed by Darren Lynn Bousman.
When will the movie release?
The filming of the movie took place in Toronto and was wrapped up way back in August 2019. The film was originally set for a 23rd October, 2020 release which was brought forward and rescheduled on 15th May, 2020.
But the global pandemic Covid-19 has caused another alteration of dates for the release. The movie is now all set to hit the screens on 21st May, 2021 in UK and US. This release date was previously occupied by the movie John Wick: Chapter 4, which has also been postponed to 2022.
What to expect from the movie?
The trailer for the reboot dropped on 5th February, 2020 and it has made the fans excited. The film is supposed to take on Saw unlike the previous movies. The official synopsis of the movie reads as follows:
“Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran, brash detective Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ Banks and his rookie partner William Schenk take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly trapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.”
It has been confirmed by Stolberg that this movie fits in the time of all other Saw movies but might not be a direct sequel of Jigsaw.
Rock has also revealed in an interview that the upcoming movie has a different feature about it. There’s supposedly quite a but of humour in it along with being bloody and gory.
Who will be in the movie?
We are going to see the following actors in the movie:
- Chris Rock as Detective Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ Banks
- Samuel L. Jackson as Marcus Banks
- Max Minghella as Detective William Schenk
- Marison Nichols as Captain Angie Garza

According to some on-set photos posted by co-writer Stolberg, Hannah Anderson and Alison Luther will also be seen on the movie. Hannah played Eleanor in Jigsaw and Alison had a minor role in Saw IV.
