When Cricket Australia announced the Australian T20 squad to tour New Zealand on Wednesday, a new face was seen in this 18-member squad. 19-year-old leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha got an opportunity to make his debut in the Australian T20 squad.
Sangha, who traveled to the national team after performing brilliantly for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League, is of Indian origin. Tanveer’s father Joga Singh Sangha is originally from Jalandhar, who went to Australia from India on a student visa in 1997. Where he worked in the fields for some time and then started driving a taxi. Tanveer’s mother is an accountant with Upneet’s profession.
Apart from Tanveer, many Indian-origin cricketers- Jason Sangha, Arjun Nair, Param Uppal have played cricket at the under-19 level for Australia. However, after Gurinder Sandhu, Tanveer Ekloute is the player who has got an opportunity to make an international debut for Australia.
Talking to The Times of India about his selection, he said, “I was on the seventh sky when I got a call. Although it took some time to fully believe …… I did not think about being selected for the team at such a young age. ”

Looking at Sangha’s T20 record, he has taken a total of 21 wickets in 14 matches played in domestic leagues. Regarding Sangha, Australia national selector Trevor Hons said, “For the last few years we have been hearing about Tanveer and now we have seen him perform in the Big Bash and the way he is playing at such a young age. That is encouraging. ”
“We have high hopes for him, although we don’t want to put too much pressure on a young player like him, especially on a leg-spinner because we know that things are just as difficult for young players,” said Howns.
He added,
“If he gets a chance in New Zealand then we will make sure that we are taking care of him because the experienced players at the international level will target the new player. This is the right opportunity for him to assess his talent. “
