After extremely successful 5 seasons, will American crime drama Person of Interest return for a season 6? Fans have been asking this lingering question since 2016 when season 5 had released. The show was created by Jonathan Nolan for CBS and revolves around a mysterious solitary billionaire and his extraordinary invention that can predict murders. Person of Interest is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video for Indian audiences.

The show features Jim Caviezel as John Reese and Michael Emerson as Harold Finch as the main characters. Other characters include:

  • Taraji P. Henson as Detective Jocelyn “Joss” Carter
  • Kevin Chapman as Detective Lionel Fusco
  • Amy Acker as Root
  • Sarah Shahi as Sameen Shaw
  • Brennan Brown as Nicholas Donnelly
  • James Carpinello as Joey Durban
  • Enrico Colantoni as Carl Elias

The story of the show revolves around software expert and billionaire Harold Finch and his invention called “The Machine”. He invented The Machine after September 11, 2001 for the U.S Government after the attacks in the New York city for predicting any future terrorist attacks upon the country. The Machine uses a mass surveillance system to predict terrorist movements and lethal activities. This technology can also predict non-terrorist lethal crimes as well which was not of government interest.

Finch hires an ex-special forces soldier John Reese as his partner to deal with non-terrorist predictions of The Machine undercover. The two involve police officers of the NYPD namely Detectives Lionel Fusco and Joss Carter on this mission. The Machine proves very effective in predicting murders. Any person who is at risk is identified as the ‘person of interest’ by the technology.

Unfortunately, the fictional crime show will not return for a season six as per the CBS network.

Reasons for the same are many. One of them is that the audience did not have any cliffhanger or suspense to explore in the season 5 finale. The Machine resumes its work after facing issues and sustaining damage. Another reason is that, the final season did not receive much viewership as previous seasons did. Also, four years have passed since the 5th season aired, therefore, chances of a new season seem very thin.
