Outlander is historical fiction, drama, adventure, fantasy television series. It is based on a novel of the same name by Diana Gabaldon. Developed by Ronald D. Moore. David Brown, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are producers of the show. The last season of Outlanders, Season five, received a score of 73 out of 100 on Metacritic and a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Release Date
The release date and shooting dates have been affected by the pandemic greatly. The renewal of Outlander season six did not pose to be difficult. Starz already announced a double renewal before season five. Therefore fans knew about Outlander six set to be in motion. Season five itself received postponing of its release date. Outlander season five came out in February 2020.
Hence a delay in Outlander season six seems inevitable. Back in March 2020, Heughan revealed that production of Outlander Season six episode one had already started. But the pandemic pushed back shooting dates. Productions initially scheduled in May were delayed because of the huge cast, their dresses, scripts and COVID restrictions.

The main characters returning are:
Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall Fraser, Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, Richard Rankin as Roger Wakefield and Sophie Skelton as Brianna Randall.
The rest of the characters’ details have not been released yet. Well that being said, we know one character who would not return in Outlander Season 6. Duncan Lacroix, who plays Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, killed in a pre-revolutionary battle in season 5 won’t be returning.
Plot
Season 5 of 12 episodes was based on the novel The Fiery Cross. Since each season is based on a different book of the series. Outlander season six will be based on Diana Gabaldon’s sixth book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. However, we still don’t know if the plot will stick to the book or if there is something new.
In the novel, Jamie strides toward the American Revolution. So all we know as of now is that the American Revolution will be coming up in Outlander Season six.
Will There Be An Outlander Spin-Off?
There have been talks about a possible spin-off with fan favourite Lord John Grey played by David Berry. He already has a series of books written with him as the main character. Although there is no official comment regarding it yet. Diana Gabaldon has confirmed regarding a prequel book based on Ellen and Brian Fraser, parents of Jamie Fraser.
