During NXT broadcasts through the USA Network, two teams managed to advance to the second round of the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic: Leon Ruff & Kushida and Lucha House Party.
Kushida and Leon Ruff defeated The Way Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory. In the final minutes of the fight, the Japanese tried to perform an Armbar on Gargano but were interrupted by Theory who came to the rescue. Ruff stops Austin with a Double Superkick while Kushida Suplexed Gargano for victory. In the next round, the winning duo will face Zack Gibson and James Drake of Grizzled Young Veterans.
Lucha House Party defeated Imperium. During the match, Metalik received an assisted knee from his rivals and Lince rescued his partner and together they performed a combination of Dropkick and Powerbomb. Metalik pushed Fabian Aichner away from the ring while Lince landed his Shooting Star Press on Marcel Barthel for the victory by a count of three. Lucha House Party will face the Legacy of the Phantom in the next round.
To end the first round, there is only one match that will take place this Friday on WWE 205 Live. Notably, it was announced that Ashante Thee Adonis was discharged due to injury and so far it has not been revealed who will be Desmond Troy’s partner. The duo had planned to face Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari.
