The first match of the first season of Lanka Premier League proved to be quite exciting. The Colombo Kings team defeated the Kandy Tuskers team in the Super Over. Kandy Tuskers scored a massive 219 runs at the loss of 3 wickets in the first play, in response Colombo Kings also could score 219 runs losing 7 wickets and the match was tied. The Colombo Kings then won in the Super Over.
Colombo Kings captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and decided to bowl. Kandy Tuskers had a tremendous start while batting first. The pair of captain Kusal Perera and Rehmanullah Gurbaz shared a tremendous partnership of 75 runs in 5.4 overs for the first wicket. Gurbaj scored 53 runs off just 22 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes. On the other hand, Kusal Perera also scored 87 runs off 52 balls with the help of 9 fours and 4 sixes.
After this, Kusal Mendis scored 30 off 24 balls and Gunaratne scored an unbeaten 33 off 20 balls to lead Candy’s team to a big score.
Colombo Kings, chasing the target, got a quick start by Dinesh Chandimal and Laurie Evans. The two players shared a tremendous 64-run partnership in 5.2 overs. Meanwhile, former Indian team all-rounder Irfan Pathan also bowled but proved to be quite expensive. Pathan conceded 25 runs in 1.5 overs and went out of the ground with an injury.
Dinesh Chandimal played a blistering innings for Colombo Kings
Dinesh Chandimal scored 80 off 46 balls and Andre Russell also scored 24 off 13 balls. In the end, Isuru Udana scored the match by scoring an unbeaten 34 off just 12 balls. In the Super Over, the Colombo Kings scored 16 runs losing 1 wicket, in response the Candy Tuskers team could only score 12 runs. Dinesh Chandimal was adjudged Player of the Match.
