Loki Episode 4 Final Explanation
The series initially presents the Guardians of Time as super-powerful beings capable of controlling the flow of time. The TVA propaganda video states that they are the ones who brought peace and harmony by merging all the timelines at war into the single Sacred timeline.
As the series progresses, it is revealed that the Time Keepers are not as benevolent as their employees seem to think. In episode 3, Loki learns from Sylvie that all of the TVA employees are themselves Variants, ripped from his life and his time.
The finale of Loki episode 4 reveals that the Time Keepers are not even the tyrannical entities Sylvie and Loki think they are. Rather, they are “brainless androids” that are likely controlled by another entity. It is possible that what Ravonna knows, the other judges also know, given that the IVA is an inherently bureaucratic organization.
It is possible that whoever controlled the VAT felt that Hunter C-20 was too dangerous and had it pruned. If so, she could still be alive as Loki and reappear in future episodes.
Post-Credits Scene Explained!
Loki himself was killed by Ravonna Renslayer, only to wake up in post-apocalyptic New York. So who are the new Loki variants getting it there and what might they know about the true origins of the VAT?
On the far right is old man Loki, played by Richard E. Grant, who wears a version of the classic Loki costume when he first appeared in the 1962 comic Journey Into Mystery # 85. In the middle is Kid Loki, played by Jack Veal. which is from a more recent comedy arc in which Loki died and was reincarnated as a child (from Thor # 617). On the left is a hammer-wielding Loki, played by Debbie Oparei, who in German credits is known as a boastful Loki. Finally, there is the crocodile held by Kid Loki, whose horned helmet identifies it as another variant of Loki.
The Loki variants are found in the ruins of New York City, with the ruins of the Stark / Avengers Tower visible behind them. These variants seem to be hiding in an apocalyptic event, like Sylvie, but in this case, they are hiding after the apocalypse has occurred. It is unknown if this is the future in the sacred timeline or an alternate timeline.
One of the many variations of Loki Could it be responsible for creating VAT? The post-credits scene certainly raises a lot of questions that the remaining two episodes of Loki will have to answer.
