During the NXT TakeOver Vengeance Day broadcasts through WWE Network, wrestler Io Shirai managed to retain the Yellow Brand Women’s Championship after defeating Toni Storm and Mercedes Martinez in a triple threat.

This was the penultimate match featured during the show. Martinez did not let a single second pass and began the attack as the announcer prepared to present the fight. The three competitors exchanged keys and attacks both inside and outside the ring. In the final moments, Toni managed to apply a Headbutt from the third rope on Mercedes, but he surprised both with a Moonsault from the outskirts to iron the latter and obtain the victory. Thus, Io Shirai retains the NXT Women’s Championship in her third defense at a TakeOver. Io won the title 252 days ago at NXT TakeOver

In Your House. On June 7, 2020, the native of Japan defeated former champion Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat. Shirai became a champion for the first time since her hiring in 2017.

MERCEDES MARTINES RETURNED TO NXT IN SEARCH OF GOLD

The reign of Io Shirai was threatened with the return of Mercedes Martinez to the programming of the yellow mark. The latter’s alliance with Toni Storm ended in a series of disagreements over who should challenge Genius in the Sky first for her female title. After confirming the triple threat for the Championship, nothing stopped the three women from exchanging attacks with each other in recent weeks.
