It seems that the mythical DeLorean DMC-12 is going to return to the future 40 years later. At least that is what seems to be deduced from the mysterious message that Italdesign has posted on its Facebook profile and that already makes fans of the cinematic DMC model dream.

The Italian bodybuilder seems to want to resurrect the machine with which Marty McFly traveled back in time and that in fact, he originally designed for John DeLorean … before it became a cult object after its passage on the big screen. Even in the Facebook post (published exactly on the day the 40th anniversary of the first unit was manufactured), there is a direct mention of DeLorean Motor Company, the brand that wants to bring the sports car back to life.

The teaser image does not reveal much, but of course, there is no shortage of the iconic gull-wing doors characteristic of the American coupe of which less than 10,000 units were produced in the scarce two years in which the DMC-12, the only model of The firm was in the making before going bankrupt.

It so happens that just two days ago the highest transportation authority in the United States, the NHTSA, approved a definitive regulation that regulates the production of replica cars from more than 25 years ago, provided that production is low volume.

Although at the moment it does not say anything about its powertrain, surely we do not lose money if we bet on an electric propulsion system that, in addition to not running into obstacles in the form of emission limits, makes unnecessary any flux capacitor to put it on the move although not into the future, but into the present.
