Let’s recall that one of the first attempts to organize the league of academies in a regular format took place in 2019. Then WePlay Esports held a league on CS: GO for tier-2 teams called WePlay! Forge of Masters. There, players could compete with each other and learn new skills. The project has lasted for two seasons and revealed the necessity of a similar format focused on youth teams of tier-1 level. The initiative to create such a league came from eSports organizations.

The pilot season was announced on 7 July 2021. WePlay Esports, in partnership with eSports organizations, launched a series of tournaments to create a regular platform for young and promising players. Thus, newbies got the chance to communicate with rivals and work in the media days, gaining the knowledge necessary to become the next CS: GO stars.

To qualify for the WePlay Academy League season, the team must have at least four players between the ages of 16 and 20. One player over 20 years per team is allowed.
