While Andrew Garfield, Kirsten Dunst, Tobey Maguire, Emma Stone will most certainly be back in Spider-Man 3, many fans are wondering if other characters from the early franchises will be present. This is particularly the case of Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin introduced in the first installment of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, whose latest rumors relayed by Comic Book Movie would like it to be back. Particularly iconic, his role marked an entire generation and today represents the best version of the character portrayed to date on the big screen. The spider-man’s flagship antagonist in the original comics, the Green Goblin would therefore have a place in the MCU, especially since many villains like Electro, Doctor Octopus, and maybe even the Sandman will also be back in Spider-Man 3.

Besides, it wouldn’t be surprising to find Willem Dafoe’s version again, with plenty of clues suggesting that Ned Leeds could become the next Green Goblin. Thus, like Peter Parker and the various versions of the young man who may appear in the film, several versions of the Green Goblin could be present, the return of Willem Dafoe facing Tobey Maguire then being able to echo the future teased clash between the characters of Tom Holland and Jacob Batalon. Another possibility would also be that the latter is influenced by the Green Goblin and becomes his scapegoat. Now, who better than the villain once played by Willem Dafoe to represent such an influence on Ned?

The talent and charisma of the actor could make him a major antagonist against Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, his return being able to bring a lot of nostalgia vis-à-vis the Spiderverse. Besides that, the return of Willem Dafoe would represent for the MCU the opportunity to have a recognized actor, certainly used to the independent cinema but also able to stand out from this genre. Not to mention the fact that it would forge a new link with Sam Raimi’s trilogy, this famous comeback would create a big surprise for fans. However, the return of Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina would risk complicating the presence of yet another supervillain. By the way, the latest comments about his role in AquamanLet we think that Willem Dafoe is no longer interested in superheroic blockbusters, the latter constituting, according to him, more a real business rather than a real creative source. Hopefully, the Spider-Man 3 scenario will change his mind as well as the negotiations currently underway with the studios …
