City on a Hill is a crime drama whose creator is Charlie MacLean. The credit for the original idea goes to both Ben Affleck and MacLean. The series has received generally favourable reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes it has an average rating of 6.8 out of 10.
The show settles in the early 1990s in Boston. The city was filled with criminals who continued corruption, tribalism under law enforcement. They took the street and found nothing wrong with it until everything changed. The story takes inspiration from ‘Boston Miracle’. The District Attorney Decourcy Ward, the change agent, forms an absurd alliance with Jackie Rohr, a corrupt FBI veteran. Together they try to make a change by taking on a family of car robbers from Charlestown. Together they turn Boston’s criminal justice system upside down.
Jimmy’s betrayal costs the family a huge loss in season one. Ryan Brothers end up in police custody after the mess up during theft at Fall River. Later Frankie Ryan figures out that this was a trap created by Jimmy. After taking Jimmy to the court, he accepts Kinicki’s murder in the court. Meanwhile, Rohr reunites with Jenny and transfers Ryan’s case to Suffolk County.
Season one was released on June 16, 2019 on Showtime. It was made available on Sky Atlantic in the UK from September 2019. On August 2, 2019 the show received renewal for a second season. But given the state of the pandemic, we have no idea about productions. We do not have a release date yet.
