Carlito’s departure from WWE has been surrounded by much controversy. The Cool Guy was fired for violating the wellness policy in 2010 due to an addiction to painkillers. In an interview with After the Bell, Carlito talked about how his return at Royal Rumble 2021 helped improve his image after the aforementioned incident.

I didn’t like the way things ended, Carlito clarified. I didn’t expect it to take ten years to return, but I hoped even for once to have a better taste in my mouth. I wanted to stop feeling those problems that led to my departure, and for the expectations to be higher and higher. I’m happy to have returned and to keep in touch. If this was my last chance, I am proud to have finished on better terms.

The possibility of Carlito working behind the scenes as a producer or coach was reported. I’ve always liked helping young people the fighter said on the show hosted by Corey Graves.  I want to contribute so that the business is better. And whatever my position, they know that I will help as I can. On the other hand, the former United States champion resolved doubts regarding a full-time comeback. We will see what the future holds he clarified.  If the conditions are right, I would love to come back. That was my goal all this time: to get away, give myself a break and get back in the ring.

Carlito made a surprise return to the Vince McMahon company at the 2021 Royal Rumble. The Cool Guy entered the ring as the number 8 participant of the men’s battle royal staying in the ring for almost eight and a half minutes. before being eliminated on the third-string by Elias. The next day on RAW, Carlito teamed up with Jeff Hardy to defeat The Drifter and Jaxson Ryker.
