‘After life’ is a British Black comedy-drama web television series which revolves around heartbreaks, emotions and sentience of life with a humorous touch. It is created, written and directed by Ricky Gervais, who is also a producer along with Charlie Hanson.

The first season of ‘After life’ aired on March 8, 2019 and the second season premiered on April 24, 2020. On May 6, 2020, Netflix and Ricky Gervais announced a new multi-project deal which included another addition to the ‘After life’ series. Besides this, Ricky confirmed that there won’t be a season four!


The series features Ricky Gervais as Tony Johnson, Tom Basden as Matt, Penelope Wilton as Anne, Tony Way as Lenny, Ashley Jensen as Emma, Mandeep Dhillon as Sandy, David Earl as Brian, Joe Wilkinson as Postman Pat, Diane Morgan as Kath, Jo Hartley as June, Roisin Conaty as Roxy and Ethan Lawrence as James, along with other supporting characters.

Plot Summary

The story is centred on Tony, who is depressed and suicidal because of his wife’s death. In the progressing episodes, he is seen to improve himself and find purpose for in his life. Since season 2 of the drama ended on a univocal note, we could anticipate the news of continuation of the news firm, also the budding relation between Tony and Emma is expected to be the highlight of the series. Well, quite rousing.

The first series got a rating of 74% with a score of 6.29/10 and second series, a rating of 75% with a score of 6.28/10. With such good ratings, the hopes are high for third season of this bittersweet series.

On July 23, 2020, Ricky shared the first look of third series’ first episode on his Twitter handle. Though, there are no official reports whether the shooting has started or not! According to reports, the most plausible date for the release of the last season of this series would be mid 2021. Worth the wait, ain’t it?
