TNT Drama will broadcast the 67th episode of AEW Dynamite a New Year’s Smash special, on January 6 today live from the Daily’s Place in Jacksonville Florida. This week’s episode features two title defenses as Kenny Omega will play the AEW World Championship against Rey Fenix and Abadon will challenge Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s World Championship

Daniels tries the Arabian Moonsault in the opening bars but is stopped by Bowens. Evans Springboard Double Knee Drop for the count of two Bowens tries a Lariat and Daniels welcomes him in a Blue Thunder Bomb. German Suplex with Kazarian bridge over Evans for the count of two Nick clears ringside with two Spins Stoppers a Spear and a Diving Crossbody. Kazarian’s DDT slingshot to Bowens, a combination of BTE Trigger and knee to the back of the head on Bowens but Evans stops the count of three. Nick greets Evans with his knees up in a 450 Splash the Bucks Superkick Party against all of their opponents, and Springboard Swanton Bomb to ringside on The Acclaimed. Best Meltzer Driver Ever and victory.

Frankie Kazarian recalls that the challenge that he proposed to Christopher Daniels at the end of 2020 is still valid, consisting in that they must separate as a team if they suffer one more defeat. Christopher Daniels says that will never happen and that the Young Bucks will always have their backs until the night they meet for the AEW World Tag Team Championships.

Jon Moxley is addressing fans for the first time since Winter Is Coming. He begins by saying that he is not here to rant about how Kenny Omega stole the AEW World Championship from him and that although he would have every reason to do so, he will not go looking for Omega or Don Callis to beat them up. Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy are asked by Dasha Gonzalez about Trent’s injury confirming that he will be out for four to five weeks due to a torn chest. Miro accompanied by Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford, interrupts them to say that if they need a new leader for their team they can go to his house to clean his car and do the laundry. They both decide to have a match for next week and Miro adds the stipulation that if Chuck loses, he must be his “boy” until after Kip and Penelope’s wedding.

Jake Hager vs. Wardlow

MJF Sammy Guevara Santana and OrtizThey are at ringside. Slow start until they both knock out each other with Lariats at ringside. Wardlow with a Chop Block in the corner, Spinebuster and applies a series of Vertical Release Suplexes for the count of two. Hager recovers with a Lariat and tries a Vader Bomb which Wardlow tries to receive with his knees up but Hager notices in time and opts for the Ankle Lock. Wardlow escapes by throwing Hager badly against the ringside barricades Release German Suplex and Swanton Bomb but when Wardlow looks for the count of three Hager surprises with a Triangle. Wardlow escapes, Hager climbs him to the third rope and chokes him again with the Triangle until his rival throws him face-to-face against the top corner. F10 and victory.

Jake Hager is very angry about the result, although he fists Wardlow after the fight.

Private Party is preparing a Gin & Juice but they only have gin so Snoop Dogg provides the juice. Matt Hardy joins several contracts for Private Party where he will take a large percentage of his earnings in exchange for his teachings.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring to lead the official weigh-in for Darby Allin and Brian Cage heading into the TNT Championship match that will take place at Dynamite next week. Brian Cage accompanied by Taz Ricky Starks Powerhouse Hobbs and Hook is the first to step on the scale and he weighs 102 kilos. Darby next confirms a weight of 77 kilos and Taz says it is not fair since he weighs more than he should because he is wearing a jacket, chains, and an iron belt. Allin takes the mic says he’s tired of dealing with people like Taz and tries to attack them but before he can do anything the lights go out. Sting makes an appearance with the bat in hand to bring order, but not before maintaining a tense face to face with the champion.

MJF calms an irate Jake Hager backstage over his loss to Wardlow, highlighting his strengths and reminding him that he is still unbeaten in MMA.
