In a gesture which won the hearts of many including the Britain Cricket Board (ECB), hotel staff welcomed Joe Root with a cake upon his arrival from the bottom on the evening of Saturday after becoming the primary batsman to attain a double hundred in his 100th Test.

In a video posted by England Cricket, Joe Root is often seen walking forward to chop a cake amid applause from his teammates. Joe Root scored 218 runs within the first innings of the primary Test against India in Chennai. The right-hander stitched a 200-run partnership with Dom Sibley and later combined with Ben Stokes to feature 124 runs for the 4th wicket.

Joe Root’s magic at Chepauk has helped England post 555 for 8 on Day 2 of the Test. Ben Stokes after the top of day’s play, called Joe Root the all-time England batsman against spin. Stokes added that the brilliance of Root makes others feel rubbish about themselves.

He makes us all feel pretty rubbish, how easy he makes batting look. I used to be quite surprised he spent the wicket and hit a six to mention the double. he’s in phenomenal form, just making things very, very easy. The way he plays spin dominates spin, it’s incredible to observe, and that I don’t think that there has been an English batsman ever to play the way he does. He possesses a solution for everything which is thrown at him. he’s just a delight to observe at the instant Ben Stokes said during a virtual news conference.
