hi everyone
we are developing a new system and decided that we will use uml technique for specifying, visualizing and documenting.
as we are new in uml,
1. could people please tell me do we really need a tool (which can trace, easy to draw diagrams, e.g. rational rose)?
2. i will be thankful to you if you can tell me alternative tools available for uml.
3. how much i will cost us for 4 developers.

please do reply me as it will help us big time to make a choice which tool is suits us and we really need a uml modelling tool, thank you

together is about as expensive as Rose, if not more. My favorite UML tools for serious work are object domain and jVision. jVision is excellent for building the documentation of an existing project, as it operates directly out of the source code. Both are about the same price ~$400

the following is a diagram I produced with Object Domain: jhttpmail

my suggestion: Together Control Center 6.0 !
Best all in one development platform. Including diagrams, documentation, coding stuff. there is only one con, the price. but there is a trialversion available, check it out: www.togethersoft.com . this is a really professional tool. including lot of QA stuff!
