i have a jlist created. when my application is going to send mail, there is an option to attach files. i can bring up the file chooser dialog window which displays a file to attach. i can then select a file. But the problem is how do i get the file i want to send with the mail to appear as an attachment in the jlist window.

what steps or assignments are needed to get the selected file from the file chooser (when selected) to appear as attachments in the main jlist window.

Huh? Working with JList and JFileChooser is covered in the Swing FAQ. If your problem is with them, perhaps you should look over there.
