When running a client in an environment where there is no keys/keystore available, it still makes sense to establish a SSL connection that ensures confidentiality and integrity.

How do I set up an SSL connection in such an environment? The default setup comes back with an "javax.net.ssl.SSLException: untrusted server cert chain" exception.

Check whether your path Environment points to your JRE in and lib directories so that it gets the default cacerts reference to get the default security at runtime.
