1. Is it possible to extend a built in task like to do specific things ?.

2. If extending a built-in task is not possible, is it possible to call a built in task from my own task ?.

The and tasks both are built by extending the task - so you certainly can extend . I'd encourage you to dig into Ant's source code to see how it was done.

You can also call tasks from within a custom task. Have a look at the and tasks - these are "meta" tasks that run other tasks. Really all that is needed is to instantiate a built-in task and call its execute() method (setting the appropriate properties beforehand, of course).
