I would like to connect to a servlet from a frame tag or javascript function.
Rather than using the typical

public void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws ServletException, IOException{

What type of method would I set up?

You can also use click here -- clicking on a link sends a GET, which would get processed by doGet.

cannot. you have to POST or GET. remember that servlet is request/response mechanism. you send it a request and it gives you a response. now, remember that the underlying protocol is http. ask yourself, how can I send a request in http? your choices are GET and POST. there are others but they won't help you either. so the answer to your question is you cannot.
