Why can't a function be declared static and abstract?

I understand why an abstract function can't be final or private, but what's the reason an abstract function can't be static? What if I want to for the child class to implement a static function?

A static method/variable is associated with the class name, Not the instance. So you cannot implement a static method in any other class even when it is a derived one.
