If I for instance have an XML file for an order that contains subtrees for a billing and a shipping address. Can I write one XSL file to process addresses and invoke it at the proper nodes?

You could do it and you should use the XSL function . You could pass different parameters to the template and differentiate between billing or shipping addresses.
