Is there a way to get the window to refresh when the child window closes using the onUnLoad event handler?

My problem is that the window refreshes several times for several different reasons, so a simple onUnLoad does not work. I am having troubles getting the correct if statement and values for these different things.

The onUnLoad="getDisplay" is in the BODY tag.

Here is my code:

var rmv

function getDisplay() {
srch = document.fromchoose.bSearch.click
add = document.frmchoosebanker.add.click
rmv = document.remove.click

if (srch == true){
"redirect( <%=transID%>)";}
else if (add == true){
"redirect( <%=transID%>)";
}
else if (rmv == true){
"redirect( <%=transID%>)";
}
One of the error messages I am getting is that getDisplay is undefined.
