what is the way to write Java 2 applets

As I know, internet browsers like IE or NN do not support Java 2 (JDK 1.2.x or 1.3) specificatons. Does it mean that I cannot write my applets (they are using JDBC, I would like to use Swing) in Java 2? Installing JDK or JRE is not the solution. Thanks a lot.

As already mentioned in the FAQ, in order to use Java 2 capabilities in an applet, you must use the Java Plugin. If installing the Plug-in as the JRE is not an option, then neither is using the Java 2 platform.
