The ${checked} is getting dumped as is. What is going wrong here. Any insight is appreciated.

I think (?) your servlet container might not implement a new enough version of j2ee/servlet/jsp specs, so it lacks the built-in evaluation of the Expression Language?



You can still use a good old-fashioned jsp expression though.
